Rachin Ravindra scored his maiden test century versus South Africa. Kane Williamson also played great, making his 30th century in Test matches. Together, they made 219 runs without losing any wickets, helping New Zealand reach a strong total of 258 for two on the first day against South African team at Bay Oval.
South Africa chose to bowl first, and their new player Tshepo Moreki did a good job by getting a wicket with his very first ball in Test cricket. Another new player, Dane Paterson, also took a wicket by catching Tom Blundell.
Rachin Ravindra, who was playing after a break of two years, showed how good he is by staying not out with 118 runs. Kane Williamson also did brilliantly and was not out with 112 runs.
Even though Williamson had a moment of worry when he mistimed a shot, he got lucky as the fielder couldn’t catch the ball. He kept scoring runs steadily and reached his half-century, eventually making another century with beautiful shots.
Ravindra, who recently won the ICC Emerging Player of the Year award, made the most of his chance to shine in the Test match. His century, filled with aggressive yet smart shots, showed his talent and determination.
South Africa, playing with a different team because of another competition, found it hard to stop New Zealand’s batsmen. Despite some good moments from Moreki and the other bowlers, they couldn’t break the partnership between Ravindra and Williamson or stop the flow of runs.
The match is set for an interesting battle over the next four days. South Africa’s bowlers are hopeful about making a comeback in the series, but they know it won’t be easy against the strong Kiwi batsmen. They realize they need to perform better in the upcoming sessions.
We wish Ravindra all the best for the second day!
